Well, well, well...the prodigal daughter returnes.

1. I have been ill and the witch-doctors are mumbling about dialysis for my failing kidneys.

2. I filed for disability but am still working until it is eith approved or denied.

The theme for August is "when walls fall". The deadline is August 15, 2010. The prize is $25.

National Healthcare

A friend PM'ed me privately and asked why I have not addressed the latest political attacks that are based on color or the Tea Party antics.

Ok, so here goes.

You don't like me or the "nigger" president. OK

You don't like the fact that a National Healthcare bill has passed. OK

You think your blatantly, murgerous, bigoted, lying comments pass as savy, political commentary and astute rhetoric. OK

You think that your guns, bullets and threats to kill people of color or anyone who dissents/disagrees with you, will scare me into silence. OK

In America Today

Health care reform passed. I have a few problems in the methodology.

1. I saw an idiot president ram an invasion down my throat (Iraq) when so-called facts were presented.

2. It does not answer the question on illegal aliens and healthcare. Or aliens who satisfy the five year residency rule and become eligible for SSI and Medicare.

HOWEVER, I am glad that we have a bill.

How to pay for it?

Stop paying trillions to invade other countries.

Sop giving services to aliens. I firmly believe that if someone immigrates and decides to bring their uncles, parents, cousins etc here, let them be responsible for THEIR healthcare, education, housing, food etc. Trust me, that would help pay for healthcare.

We give away millions to folks who are not citizens. We give the food stamps. We give them Medicare. Start telling them that the cookie jar is empty. I have seen too many seniors tell me that they cannot afford their Medicare premiums. That burns me up when a Russian on SSI calls me up and I see that they get FREE Medicare. Piss on 'em.

Short Story Contest

Three times a year, Jerry Jazz Musician awards a writer who submits, in our opinion, the best original, previously unpublished work of approximately one - five thousand words. The winner will be announced via a special mailing of our Jerry Jazz Musician newsletter. Publishers, artists, musicians and interested readers are among those who subscribe to the newsletter. Additionally, the work will be published on the home page of Jerry Jazz Musician and featured there for at least four weeks.

The Jerry Jazz Musician reader has interests in music, social history, literature, politics, art, film and theatre, particularly that of the counter-culture of mid-twentieth century America. Your writing should appeal to a reader with these characteristics.

Contest details

A prize of $100 will be awarded for the winning story. In addition to the story being published on Jerry Jazz Musician, the author's acceptance of the prize money gives Jerry Jazz Musician the right to include the story in an anthology that will appear in book or magazine form. No entry fee is required. One story entry only.

Submission deadline for the next contest is May 31, 2010. Publishing date will be July 1, 2010.

Contests

I am thinking about sponsoring my own writing contest. Most of the contests I have found charge a fee of $10 to $75 per entry. I don't know about you but as an aspiring writer, funds tend to be limited. so I thought about offering a writing contest every moth and charging $3 to $5 with the winner winning $100. What do you guys think?

Secluded Paradise

Ok, I think everyone knows that I have my drawers in lather over Multiply's TOS (am I mixing metaphors?) and have been posting on Blogger. The other site which is my new social networking creative home is, http://secludedparadise.yuku.com/directory, hosted by my friend Sharon. If you like poetry, then you oughta visit...really, if you hope to ever publish, don't post it on Multiply since they seem to hijacked first publication rights in perpetuity...in any event, I use my Secluded Paradise page primarily to post new poetry/short story contests but I participate in the poetry challenges. And I have to tell you, Secluded has been good for generating new poetry in me! Just when I think that I have nothing to write, Secluded throws me a challenge that inspires a new poem or a short story.

More news:

I was recently discharged from the hospital or what I consider my quarterly vacation...I am in morphine heaven...um...no, really...it puts a sheen on life...even bird crap...lol...but no fear, I return to work Monday, thus I will be ejected from heaven soon...lol

LMN

I just posted this on the LMN website:

All month, I have been watching the commercials about the upcoming Black History Month. This morning I turned on the TV and decided to watch Mr & Mrs Loving, a movie about a couple struggling to live as a married couple during the 1960s. As I laid there, I was struck by a sudden insight.

And despite 40 years of civil rights, TV and that includes this channel, we are still viewed as being outside the mainstream. If we are lucky, sometimes we have roles as side-kicks. Or prostitutes. Or recovering drug addicts. The fat mammy. The peppery chica. Or even the sultry Asian sex-pot. Occasionally, we have starring roles as the main character. Occasionally.

Despite the fact that people of color (which includes Asians and Hispanics) out-number whites, there are few movies showing us as just regular people, on TV. It takes a Hispanic month or a Black History month to see movies with us as just regular people, with no damn stereotyping. And LMN, which purports to be a "womens channel" shows few movies with women of color. LMN, predominantly offers movies with white women and their struggles, the rest of the year. That's 365 days of the year. I bet if one could have access to LMN's film library, the stats would show that they have a disproportionate number of diversity films, in relation to actual American demographics. Thus we women of color, get one, two months of the year. With a few movies. That's it folks. *clap clap clap* . I guess after 40 years, I should be grateful. But I'm not. I freaking pissed off.

And this is speculation on my parts, but I bet that LMN and the rest of their executives are applauding themselves and their liberalism. Guess what? I'll applaud you when you show a significant amount of movies that show-case women other than whites more than one month of the year, with 7 or 8 movies.

Just a few tidbits:

1. Three poems have been selected to be published by Wordgathering, ""A Hostile Take-over" and "Morning Worship" in the March 2010 issue and "Tears of a...." in the June 2010 issue. The poem btw was originally posted on Multiply as "Pariah". The editor suggested that I change the title.

Because of the TOS bullshit on Multiply, I won't post the poetry here. Because of Wordgathering's submission guidelines, AFTER they are published, I will post them on my Blogger's blog.

2. I LOVE Secluded Paradise on YUKU. I'm not a member but I do have a page at Secluded Paradise. I think that you have to be invited BUT you can set-up a page there. ...Don't ask me how, wander about my contact list on Multiply and send Sassy a pm regarding the how to do it etc...
